The 3-day Poland trip, hour by hour
This is the itinerary I write most often: out on Friday morning, home Sunday night, one day of annual leave, a city and a mountain in between.

The reason short Poland trips fail is over-planning. Three cities in three days means you see three train stations. This route deliberately does one city, one mountain range and one optional half-day site, with the travel legs kept under two hours each.
Everything here is timed against actual flight schedules from Scottish airports, including the awkward truth that the cheapest outbound is usually before dawn. When your flights are different, the shape stays the same and the hours move.

Day by day
A sample route
Friday — fly, then Kraków
06:30 departure from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen. On the ground in Kraków by mid morning, bags dropped by 11:00 and straight into the Old Town. Wawel Hill in the afternoon, dinner in Kazimierz, and an early night because Saturday is the long day.
Saturday — the mountains
07:30 pickup south to Zakopane, in the Tatras by 09:30. Cable car or a valley walk depending on the forecast, lunch in a highlander inn, thermal baths late afternoon, and back in Kraków for around 20:00 — or an overnight in the mountains if you'd rather not double back.
Sunday — one more thing, then home
Choose one: Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Wieliczka salt mine, or a slow morning of coffee and the Sunday market. Late lunch, transfer to the airport, and an evening flight that has you home before midnight.

Common questions
Is three days really enough for Poland?
- For southern Poland, yes. Kraków to Zakopane is two hours, so a Friday-morning departure and a Sunday-evening return gives you two full days on the ground plus two half days.
What does a 3-day trip cost?
- Flights from Scotland typically run £60–£150 return off peak, guesthouses £40–£80 a night, and meals £10–£20 a head. I give you a real budget with the plan rather than a from-price.
Do I need to take annual leave?
- Usually one day. Most people fly out early Friday and back late Sunday, which costs a single day of leave for a trip that feels considerably longer.
